Sixth Avenue Street Changes
What You Need to Know
Recent changes to Sixth Avenue have left residents surprised and concerned. Without any consultation with the local community, the Holdfast Bay Council removed the chicanes at both ends of the street—the Anzac Highway and Dunbar Terrace ends. This decision has sparked discussions among residents, as its impact on traffic flow and safety has been noticeable and, in many cases, negative.
Why Were the Chicanes Removed?
Following some research and correspondence with the Holdfast Bay Council, it was revealed that the removal of the chicanes was intended to improve traffic flow during peak hours. However, based on resident observations, this change has not delivered the intended results.
Unintended Consequences
Instead of alleviating congestion, the removal of the chicanes has introduced new problems:
- Increased Speeding: During non-peak hours, vehicles are now speeding down the street, often exceeding the 50 km/h speed limit.
- Parking Obstacles: With cars parked on both sides of the street, the flow of traffic remains restricted, rendering the removal of the chicanes ineffective during peak hours.
- Safety Concerns: The higher vehicle speeds have heightened concerns for pedestrian safety and made the street less comfortable for residents.
Seeking Community Input
As a strata corporation that values community feedback, we believe it is crucial to gather input from all affected residents. To better understand the broader sentiment and experiences, we will be distributing flyers to Sixth Avenue residents. These flyers will include a link to an online survey where you can share your opinions about the changes.
How You Can Help
Your feedback is essential in advocating for necessary changes. By participating in the survey, you can help us communicate the community's concerns and preferences to the Holdfast Bay Council.
Together, we can ensure that the voices of Sixth Avenue residents are heard and that our street remains safe and functional for everyone.
